Snowflake: the engine powering Optio’s Data Warehouse (ODIN)
Creating a platform agnostic Data Warehouse has been an important project for Optio. Partnering with sector experts, and forming our own Business Intelligence team has been instrumental in the design and execution of our data warehouse. In order to create the data lake, we needed to partner with a best-in-class provider and we chose Snowflake. That decision underpins the architecture and build of our data warehouse, something that is already providing valuable insight as well as automating inefficient processes.

Snowflake is a single platform comprised of storage, compute, and services layers that are logically integrated but scale infinitely and independent from one another.
Snowflake combines and stores data from multiple sources. Combining this data, in conjunction with a business-defined glossary, allows the data-warehouse to deliver a “single source of the truth”, ensuring that business teams have clear and consistent reporting.
At Optio, we used the cloud-hosted product, Matillion, for ingesting and transforming data from their in-house underwriting platform and external 3rd party platforms. Snowflake underpins the Tableau reporting suite and in conjunction with Matillion, supporting external intra-day SharePoint reporting schedules.
Working with industry experts is always key to success and last year we collaborated with Interworks, to drive forward the design and build of the data-warehouse architecture.
